Case Study | Industrial Materials Supplier (B2B) | Corporate and Product Websites: Build and Operation

Situation
In addition to manufacturing its own products, the company is the Japanese distributor for several overseas manufacturers. Each brand had its own website, and the sites referred to one another as "external links." Product pages existed for each model number, but product information was not structured, the path to an inquiry was unclear, and search traffic was limited. There was no dedicated web staff, and every update went to an outside vendor.
What agitoy handled
agitoy led a full rebuild of the corporate website, starting from information architecture and requirements definition. Product information was restructured so that a visitor can reach a product by model number or specification and proceed to an inquiry.
What we did
- Restructured product information into a hierarchy searchable by model number, specification and application
- Designed the information to be referenced by search engines; implemented the CMS
- Designed the path to inquiry and catalogue requests
- Chose expression and language suited to B2B products
- Applied the same design to the brand product site
- Post-launch: product page updates and improvement proposals
Team and cadence
- A small team with design direction, production and project management each assigned. agitoy handled information architecture, requirements definition and project management
- Weekly production reviews
- Post-launch analysis meetings as needed
Outcomes
For B2B customers with clear requirements, the design was valued for combining completeness with clarity. [Figure]. The site was handed over in a state the client can update in-house, and requests for product page updates continue after launch.
